Methods and Materials.

I cannot say I am a painter. Although I do use a paint brush. I am more of a drawer who uses a paint brush to create painterly effects. The materials are primarily oil pastel and china marker pencils. With a brush I add oil paint from a painting stick.

The real fun is splashing on various media, and then working with what develops.

It is play. I can make quite a mess, often smell of turpentine.

I am in the process of photographing new work.

Description of Work:

It is hard for me to characterize my own work. I have had other tell me that there is a 'style.' I am not aware of this. I am simply trying to make something that, to my eye, works. I enjoy painting/drawing the figure and human face the most. I have been told this is the most difficult assignment, but for me it is what is most interesting. I do not usually use a photo. So the image I come up with is often more generalized. That is fine. I am not trying to 'fool the eye.'

Unless you have done creative work, it would be hard to understand just how gratifying this activity is. I can only say--time stops. And--I am no longer interested in eating or sleeping or anything else.
